When you work or volunteer somewhere, alot of the time you are expected to wear a uniform. and if its voluntary chances are, you got to keep that god awful primary coloured tshirt.
The following is some of my last year of tshirts (that didnt get thrown away before i got home)
In order....
this was the xs and it was basically the russian circus tent.
long story short i worked an information desk at the shopping centre for two days. telling people how its not too late for uni and have the school leavers applied yet.
considering it was lashing rain that weekend and there was the culture festival on that whole week, nobody wanted to hear about university. i however got paid £8 and hour, so i was happy to sit in the draft.
The only two proper people i got to talk about uni was a batty woman in a fur coat that hasnt seen a hairbrush in two decades, and wanted to study medicine (personally i thought she'd be both a massive liabilty and amazing craic if she were to actually become a nurse) and the other was a woman asking about a newspaper clipping for an unrelated event somewhere in the city, but because i had the universty logo on me, i had to automatically know everything about it, surprisingly it was an event my brother was away to that day so i did actually know about it, but she didnt actually want to go, she wanted me to confirm it was unsuitabe or her preteen who was overly interested in going, even though i said he'd prob fit right in, she wouldnt leave until i confirmed (and lied) that it wasnt suitable for him, thus theyshould just go home, round of applause for mum of the year. i mean it was literally round the corner.
culture tech (which is now my hair dye tshirt, since i got three tshirts that week) was great fun, but since it collided with a day job and alot o partying due it being freashers week, i was severally lacking in sleep the entire festival. was good craic, it was basically nerds uniting to show the public technology.
there was loads of events but i was stuck being a runner (any time any photographer needed new batteries etc on any side of the city) and parading children from one console exhibit to another. it was glorified babysitting but it was great getting behind the curtain access to alot of the music and tech events (even though i was too wrecked to actually take advantage of this)
either way this is now my hair dyeing tshirt.
student guide, pretty self explainitory. i ran tour groups every forty minutes from the foyer of the main building (hogwarts building) down to the farthest away building (foyle arts) explained the campus to both parents and prospective students and ran out of breath constantly explaining the many courses, including my own and similar. i turned out to be a pretty good asset to the uni that day since i got asked back many times to do more work/volunteer (free tshirt less events) personally i blame the bright candyfloss pink hair, anytime anyone wanted or needed anything it was a 'talk to the pink one' moment.
apart from being in the promo video for magee campus, the only thing i can remember specifically was the head of the school tussling my pink hair for the newspaper, and a REALLY fit nursing student, who hung out with me the whole day, but i never got his second name, so meh, wasnt meant to be :(
ps. i love how clingy this tshirt looks TALK TO MEEEE (i assume they were aiming for friendly)
This particular one i shouldve goten a few times but because im so niave i just used the same tshirt over different city events. after all it was all the same red shirts. i know theres probably at least ten in many grannies closets by the end of it all, but i only needed one so meh.
So derry was the city of culture in 2013. They talked about it all through 2012 and it was all yu heard about by the end of 2013, but now its just sort of clinging on hoping it can be city of culture again. tbh i think it did really well as city of culture. i mean thre was something on every week if not every day. was never a dull moment. and for us students tempted y free tea and toast, or free lunch or a free city of culture bright red coat to keep us warm all winter, we signed up and worked the events.
after all why pay to attend something you could be paid for attending.
This unlike the others is home made (identical to five others that my friends wore) it was a campaign tshirt during student elections. i made a pretty good dent in the polls i must say so myself. and i had a blast doing it (granted my studies declined from then onwards due to falling behind, but otherwise good craic) i was aiming for feminine then anarchy but it sort of ended up very umm....claire like.
with this and my pikatchu hat, i was hard to miss round campus.
was so pretty, i loved the volunteer tshirts way more than i liked the officer tshirt (which i had to wear) so when all was said done and we were packing up, i asked the head of the student union if i could keep one of the unused green tees, woohoo.
Porbably the most stressful and ongoing job i had all year, which was finished off by an entire week of events me and the other officers built from scratch.
it was hectic considering most people get the job and training months before the RAG week, but we only got ours a little over a month. so it was all rushed and last minute, and we hadalmost two events a day.
i was soley in charge of getting and running the volunteers.
but it was all worth it for charity (and my ugly green tshirt apparently)
So believe it or not thats a years worth of tshirts folded above.
well.... its one from a job every other month that i enjoyed.
kinda love how my year can actually be sumed up into that one bundle. who i was going out with, what i was doing that week, who was visiting, who all i met and a million other things. it was jut an awesome year i think :) kinda cool how that wee bundle of clothes can sum it all up for me.
